After Antonio Prosanto, in charge of advancing the work of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline, resigned from his position, the Secretary of Energy, Darío Martínez, explained that this will not modify the deadlines of the work. "He is a technician of Enarsa (for Energía Argentina S.A.), they will be internal differences," the official said in statements to Radio Urbana Play.
Martinez took the same position as in the Government yesterday, despite the uncertainty generated by the resignation among the businessmen of the sector.
"That is not going to replace the pipeline process, which is a very important work and it will not be delayed by modifying a person who, although he has a lot of knowledge, is part of a team that is carrying out this work. It's not going to delay the work," Martinez said of Pronsato. In that framework, the secretary remarked that the gas pipeline is in charge of Energía Argentina and said that "that continues to work according to the established deadlines. We are moving forward, the pipes have been awarded, this week the specifications of the work will be, the environmental impact studies were made in Neuquén, Río Negro, La Pampa, which is where it passes".
On the other hand, Martínez explained that the delays in the awards occurred, in the first instance due to the environmental impact reports and, in addition, because it influenced that Russia – at war with Ukraine – is one of the suppliers of the pipes. In this regard, he said: "What has to do with countries in conflict always means that the process is not as it is established."
The secretary commented that all the stages of the process are being fulfilled satisfactorily, so that between July and August 2023 the gas pipeline will be connected. "We are very satisfied, the specifications are going to be this week. This work is the most important in terms of infrastructure in the last 40 years of Argentina, necessary to replace imports and produce Argentine gas with national industry, "he said.
Meanwhile, on Friday, May 27, the contract for the financial trust that will manage the assets for this pipeline was signed with the Investment and Foreign Trade Bank (BICE), with which it is intended to expand the natural gas transport capacity by 25% and increase the production of Vaca Muerta. According to the plans of the national government, between July and August 2023 there will be an additional 11 million cubic meters and, by the month of October, 19 million cubic meters more, which will allow a fiscal saving that would exceed 4000 million dollars.
